As we approach Easter, our thoughts turn to family and those we love gathered at the table for Easter dinner. How do you celebrate special holidays? Is it around a table with family, friends, good conversation and food?
We love hearing stories of how our customers use the furniture that they’ve purchased from us. Many just for that very reason of “gathering”. We believe that we could all spend a little more time around the dinner table sharing life!

And speaking of dining room tables, we happen to have a beautiful selection (at both locations) of dining room tables and counter height tables that will work in your space perfectly. Whether you’re looking for something that’s friendly to your budget or an Amish heirloom, we have it! Stop by and shop both of our stores to find your new “gathering” table – we look forward to serving you!
Helpful Hints on Protecting Your Upholstery
Dan suggests that to keep your furniture looking good for the life of your purchase, you need to:

1. Keep it clean! Vacuum your upholstered furniture regularly. This simple step is quick and easy and will keep the fabric free of dust and dirt. Clean spots and spills right away. Be sure to check labels for cleaning codes: W = water-based cleaners, S= solvent cleaners, WS = either water or solvents. Blot spots and stains – never rub or scrub as this may set the stain or damage the nap of the material. I have found Folex to be a very good general water-based cleaner and hydrogen peroxide works great for blood stains. Pretest cleaners in a hidden area first to be sure fabric is colorfast.

2. Rotate your cushions!Turn your cushions over and use both sides. By rotating your cushions (seats and backs), you double the life of the cushions and promote even wear to both the upholstered cover and the inside core. This goes for the back cushions as well. Pillows filled with loose fiberfill can be fluffed up by pulling apart compacted filling. Rotating regularly will help add life to your purchase!

4. Use sunblock! Well… not really, but you should protect your upholstered furniture from fading by keeping it out of direct sunlight. If possible, change the position of furniture occasionally.

5. Sitting Pretty! Sit centered on your cushion – sitting toward one side of your seat may cause the cushion to wear unevenly. This usually occurs when leaning toward a light source for reading. Try to sit squarely to promote even wear.

Following these simple steps will keep your upholstered pieces looking good for a long, long time!

Furniture Care From The Expert
By: Dan Proctor, Service Manger – Valley Furniture and Cash and Carry Furniture
Dan has been with Valley Furniture and Cash and Carry for over 20 years. He knows a thing or two about furniture, protecting it, and repairing it. Here are his suggestions for “Protecting Your Investment”.
Dan suggests that liquid spills should be wiped up immediately with a soft, slightly damp cloth. Wipe in the direction of the wood grain. Buff dry with a soft cloth, or towel.
Never place hot objects on any furniture surface. Always use coasters or mats between your furniture top and hot objects.
Place felt or cork under accessories to avoid scratching the surface of your furniture.
Do not leave plastic or rubber materials on table tops. Chemicals within the plastic or rubber may react with the finish on the wood when left for long periods of time. Over time, these chemicals may actually remove the finish from your furniture.
Do not expose furniture to direct or strong sunlight, heating vents, or open windows. Extensive exposure can cause fading of the finish. Extreme temperatures and humidity can cause wood to crack and split.
Frequent dusting will remove dust which can become abrasive with build-up.
For general cleaning, wipe down entire top with a damp cloth. Dry immediately with a soft dry cloth in the direction of the wood grain.
Today’s finishes are heat and moisture resistant. Follow these simple steps and be assured that your finish will continue to look good for many years to come.
